Doozy is the latest super-rhythmic slab from current Lozenge lineup Kyle Bruckmann (accordion/oboe/vocals), former Flying Luttenbacher Kurt Johnson (bass/electronics/ayahuasca), and metal-drum-friendly percussionists Philip Montoro and Mark Stevens. It boasts distorted garage-punk bursts, No Wave thuddings, and occasional klezmer-y moments, combined with free-noise and deft inter-instrument syncopations into a frenetic, molten ball of sound that will pummel the dickens out of any unsuspecting listeners – as well as those of suspecting listeners. And that’s a good thing – a very good thing.

Lozenge is a menacing aural entity and should be investigated by any and all who love it loud, fast, and noisy (and sometimes bouncy). They remind us that in all things sonic, we should remember to leap before we look more often – because that first step just might be a Doozy.
